A boat carrying a group of passengers from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico ran out of fuel and drifted for ten days. In the Dominican Republic schools, hospitals, transportation and health sectors were affected by a 48 hour strike calling for improved salaries in the public sector and a decrease in the price of gasoline.
