The San Fernando Hill in the background here looks like a mound with a flattened top but by the end of the 1970s had a different shape and was about a third of its original size, due to heavy mining. This Pointe-a-Pierre area used to be noted for its thriving sugar estates. However, in 1913, an oil company called Trinidad Leaseholds Limited bought all the estate lands and a modest oil refinery and oil storage deposit were established. Pointe-a-Pierre grew to become one of the most vital refineries in the western hemisphere.enPlease contact the Main Library, The University of the West Indies for permission to use the digitized images. wimail@sta.uwi.eduTrinidad and TobagoPostcardsPetroleum industry and trade--Trinidad and TobagoOil storage tanks--Trinidad and TobagoPetroleum refineries --Trinidad and TobagoMountains--Trinidad and TobagoCities and towns--Trinidad and Tobago--Point-a-PierreParia, Gulf of (Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago)Naparima Hill (Trinidad and Tobago)San Fernando Hill (Trinidad and Tobago)Pointe-a-PierreImage
