The inquiry investigates an arms smuggling deal in April 1989 in which Antigua was used as a transit point for an illegal shipment of Israeli arms bound for Colombia. The report recommends the banning of the Prime Minister’s son, Vere Bird Jr., from public office for life and the firing of army commander, Clyde Walker (00:41-01:39)3. Roger Lafontant is disqualified from running in Haiti’s presidential elections for failing to produce a birth certificate. The decision is based on technical grounds rather than the law which prohibits former Duvalists from participating in elections until 1997. The main political parties in Trinidad and Tobago are not surprised by the results of the recent public opinion poll conducted by the St. Augustine Research Association (SARA).
