Last year, CARICOM needed 4.2 million US Dollars to run its affairs and Jamaica contributed 37.5% of that total. Jamaica’s Industry and Commerce Minister, Hugh Small, has announced that given the current economic difficulties facing Jamaica, they want to reduce their contribution by some 5%. Yesterday's speaking in Canada, Mr. Aristide named the leader of the Haitian Socialist Party, Victor Benoit, as his choice and added that he thought he could be returned to power before Christmas.
