Trade ministers from the European Union reached a last minute compromise as the banana import regime threatened to block today’s final signing of the General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in Marrakesh. The proposal worked out basically postpones the decision which France feared might jeopardize the controversial banana regime which some EU member states object to.
