Prime Minister Denzil Douglas announces the election date will be four months before its constitutionally due date. Montserrat’s Chief Minister is being asked to reconsider a suggestion that would bar residents living abroad from exercising their franchise. Residents living overseas make up over two-thirds of the electorate and are outraged that they may have to provide evidence of their intentions to reside in Montserrat or return home for the elections. A group from the Virgin Islands wants to have their nationality adapted in hope they can be considered Caribbean people.
