Earlier yesterday another prisoner, John Higgs, who was scheduled for execution alongside Mitchell, committed suicide.,. Debbie Nash reports that Mitchell’s execution has made very little impact on Nassau as there was no protests against his execution unlike in previous years. The Caribbean Justice group has been pushing for the abolition of the death penalty in the region. An outstanding debt of 15 million dollars was compromised by sugar cane farmers in Trinidad and Tobago. As a result, they have refused to cut any more canes until a better price is given before the start of the crucial crop.
