In 1912, the area consisted of the thriving sugar estates of Plaisance, Bon Accord, Bonne Aventure, Plein Palais, La Carriere and Concorde. However, in 1913, an oil company called Trinidad Leaseholds Limited bought all the estate lands in the area which were found to contain oil since 1857. A modest oil refinery and oil storage deposit were established and Pointe-a-Pierre grew to become one of the most vital refineries in the western hemisphere.enPlease contact the Main Library, The University of the West Indies for permission to use the digitized images. wimail@sta.uwi.eduTrinidad and TobagoPostcardsCities and towns--Trinidad and Tobago--Point-a-PierreOil storage tanks--Trinidad and TobagoPetroleum refineries--Trinidad and TobagoPetroleum industry and trade--Trinidad and TobagoMountains--Trinidad and TobagoNaparima Hill (Trinidad and Tobago)San Fernando Hill (Trinidad and Tobago)Pointe-A-Pierre, San Fernando Hills in Distance.
