Abstract of Education Statistics 2000-2001 Ministry of Education and Sports Planning, Projects & Performance Measurement Service Area Tel: 02-32062/25661 P.O. Box 1769 Fax: 02-31762 Upper Floor Belize District Education Centre e-mail: Mahogany Street Extension pfmp_moes@btl.net (Belize City) Belize City, Belize jvargas@bzcdec.gov.bz Central America Planning, Projects & Performance Measurement Service Area Introduction Abstract of Education Statistics – 2000-2001 This publication of the Abstract of Education Statistics is the second of its kind produced by the Planning, Projects & Performance Measurement Service Area. The first publication attracted wide attention and support from stakeholders. The purpose of this publication is to disseminate information collected from our yearly school census on a timely basis. Moreover, it is our intention to present the information in a user-friendly manner without the drawback of technical jargon or convoluted statistical interpretation. It is indeed gratifying to see that information usage is becoming an essential component of daily planning, decision making and project monitoring and evaluation. This publication follows the same format as the previous one. The first section is composed of 23 Tables highlighting the main features of our 98 Pre-Schools. The 20 Tables in section two features important aspects of our primary schools and section three has 28 Tables dealing strictly with information from on our 35 secondary schools. Among these tables a few of the primary indicators: e.g. repetition rate, dropout rate, transition rate and pupil teacher ratio are included. Again, without the invaluable support of school managers, principals and teachers this publication could not have been possible. Special thanks to you all and hope that you continue cooperating with us in the future. Thanks also go to the Ministry of Education personnel who in some way or other contributed to make this publication a success. The Planning and Projects Service Area appreciates any suggestions so that we can improve future publications. Please direct your comments to the address found above.
