ABSTRACT 
Design Of A Plant Layout For A Manufacturing Facility 
In The Garment Industry

This project involved the use of several published, accepted approaches to 
plant layout in the design of a departmental facility plan for the proposed 
future premises of a garment factory. 
E.S.F. Limited, a company well known in the garment manufacturing industry 
in Trinidad and Tobago, is considering a revision of its current production 
system and layout, with a view to merging three production lines into one line 
capable of manufacturing three related products. 
Research was done on plant layout design, as well as selected issues in the 
global garment industry and that of Trinidad and Tobago. 
Alternative designs were developed for the most active area of the facility, the 
Production Department. Using various methods, the perceived value of each 
design was analyzed and the "best" alternative chosen.

E.S.F.'s corporate policies and feedback from management and staff were also 
incorporated into the final design to produce a manufacturing environment for 
use by ESF Limited.
