2. A rebellion by sections of the Haitian army results in the death of 26 persons and leaves overs 200 wounded. The mutinous soldiers have issued a list of demands, including the dissolution of a para-military commando which is trained without army authorization and the confirmation of the appointment of a Commander-and-chief. The US has condemned the rebellion which is described as an attack on Haiti’s constitutional order (00:37-06:05)
3. The government of the US announces a write-off of a Guyanese debt of over $100 million in recognition of the electoral and economic reforms in Guyana. Sharief Khan reports that the cancellation may also be linked to Guyana’s backing down from a previous position of not allowing any additional observers to monitor the upcoming elections (06:06-08:18)
4. The editor of Guyana’s sole independent newspaper the Starbroek News, David DeCaires, is currently on a visit to London. In an interview, he states that it is a challenge to maintain the newspaper with the severe weakness of the Guyana dollar against the US dollar (08:19-11:26)
5. Richie Richardson of Antigua succeeds Vivian Richards as the captain of the West Indies cricket team.
