2. The Executive of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union held an emergency meeting yesterday and is considering taking the government to court over the 8% pay cut proposed by the Erskine Sandiford’s administration that was accepted by public service workers. Interview with the union’s president, Patrick Frost, who states that the pay cut amounts to a breach of contract by the government (00:32-02:47)
3. The Elections Commission in Guyana commissioned Selwyn Ryan, Trinidadian political scientist and pollster, to assist in testing the authenticity of the new voters list that has been fraud with problems, including the disappearance of 53,000 names. Sharief Khan’s report includes an interview with a US Congressman who was involved in the investigation of the preparation for the upcoming elections (02:48-06:45)
4. Dominican Rosie Douglas, political activist and well known for his pro-Cuba stance, calls on Caribbean countries to foster closer ties with the Cuba at the political level by following the example of the private sector (06:46-11:04)
5. The new US Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Sally Cowal, indicated that it may be sometime before Caribbean states are considered under the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative. Debbie Ransome interviews Sall Cowal who states that the US priority is currently with Mexico and the free trade area, and also comments on the illegal exports of guns via Miami to Trinidad prior to the attempted coup last year (11:05-14:50)
