2. The debate continues over Trinidad’s interpretation of a CARICOM’s decision on individual or joint accession to NAFTA. At the Heads of Government at the Intercessional Meeting in St. Vincent, leaders reaffirmed their decision to approach accession as a unified group. According to Trinidad and Tobago’s representative, CARICOM heads said that individual members may need different provisions to accommodate different interests. However, analyst, Henry Gill days this does not mean a green light for countries to apply individually to NAFTA as Trinidad and Tobago interpreted. 3. A sixteen-man Haitian football team playing the Shell Caribbean cup in Trinidad and Tobago has been refused political asylum and visitor visa to the United States. The team minus two players and three administrators filed into the US Embassy in Port of Spain determined not to return to Haiti. The three team members are majors in the Haitian military and one is a sergeant. The entire situation puts the Trinidad and Tobago government in a prickly position (06:23-08:50)
