2. Jamaica has announced that it is seeking a reduction in its financial contribution to the CARICOM budget. Last year, CARICOM needed 4.2 million US Dollars to run its affairs and Jamaica contributed 37.5% of that total. Jamaica’s Industry and Commerce Minister, Hugh Small, has announced that given the current economic difficulties facing Jamaica, they want to reduce their contribution by some 5%. 4. Members of Haiti Senate have blocked a move designed to pave the way for the return of deposed President Jean Bertrand Aristide. Under a plan negotiated by the OES, an interim Prime Minister acceptable to both Mr. Aristide and parliamentarians should be named to pave the way for the president's return. Yesterday's speaking in Canada, Mr. Aristide named the leader of the Haitian Socialist Party, Victor Benoit, as his choice and added that he thought he could be returned to power before Christmas.
