Papers were presented around the following themes: "The Civilizational Heritage of Indian Diasporic Communities"; "The Historical Context of the Indian Diaspora"; "Family Histories and Biographies"; "Gender Issues in the Diaspora"; "Gender Relations in the Indian Diaspora"; “Power Relations in the Indian Diaspora"; "Race Relations"; "Cultural Reconstruction in North America"; "Cultural Reconstruction in Trinidad and Tobago and South Africa"; 'Music and Language in the Diaspora". A copy of the programme is filed with the tapes. Copies of the papers presented at the conference are available at The Main Libary, St. Augustine.
