This is an old photograph giving a glance at a typical race day at Queens Park, later known as the Queen’s Park Savannah, the Grand Savannah and the Savannah, Port of Spain in days gone past. A vast verdant field is in the foreground, a pavilion is situated near the horizon with crowds of spectators standing in front of it and large trees behind. Someone is mounted on a horse in front of a yellow roof. The first recorded horse race took place here in 1828 and horse racing at the Savannah ended in 1994. |
