Loading Up the Trolleys on Pitch Lake Railway

Abstract

Here is a picture circa 1910 of blue collar workers digging and loading pitch onto railroad carts and trolleys at the Pitch Lake in La Brea. This pitch will later be loaded on to ships via an aerial tramway at Brighton Pier and exported afar.
