2. Leader of Guyana’s People Progressive Party, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, chooses Sam Hinds as a running mate for the forthcoming elections. Sam Hinds is the Technical Director of Guyana’s bauxite industry and a former member of Guyana Action for Reform and Democracy. Dr. Cheddi Jagan is interviewed by Pat Whitehorne (00:56-04:06)
3. Jamaica’s Foreign Minister, David Core, states that the path is now clear for free and fair elections in Guyana. His comments come in response to yesterday’s remarks by Neville Duncan, Political Analyst of Barbados, that Guyana was only able to secure electoral reform after a visit by Jimmy Carter which highlighted the failure of Caricom to assist with the reformation process in Guyana (04:07-06:03)
4. A two-man team of Amnesty International returned from Guyana after collecting information on the death penalty. Anita Teeson, spokeswoman for Amnesty International, states that the visit was part of ongoing research into capital punishment in Guyana and also addresses the issue of the death penalty in the wider Caribbean (06:04-09:22)
5. Fears of another elections bloodbath in Haiti as followers of the former Duvalier dictatorship forms a new political party. The Union for National Reconciliation is headed by Roger Lafontant who has continued to defy a warrant for his arrest. Michael Norton reports from the UNR convention and also confirms the return of Leslie Manigat to Haiti (09:23-14:36)
