Abstract

Len 'Boogsie' Sharpe is presented with a house in recognition of his achievement in the steelpan industry, at the opening ceremony of the Tobago Heritage Festival. The article also highlights other national heroes who did not receive timely recognition like Hasely Crawford, who won a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics but was rewarded in 1997 with the keys to house in Federation Park by the Basdeo Panday. The article also discusses the timeliness of the Ministry of Social and Community Development's draft policy on national heroes and other "special achievers" and which is meant to provide guidelines on assisting needy citizens who have contributed to national good.
