Scope and Contents note

The drawings include the original sketches which were done for the publications 'A checklist of the marine macroalgae of the republic of Trinidad and Tobago" and "Fact of interest on some of the plants of Trinidad and Tobago." The drawings give a three-dimensional picture of the specimens and are important adjunct to the herbarium records.

Macroalgae project: In 1980 a project designed to record the marine macroalgae of Trinidad and Tobago was initiated in the Dept of Life Sciences at the University of the West Indies. Students were employed during the period 1980-1982 to assist with the collection of macroalgae from shorelines to depth 5m. Identification of the samples was obtained from Mr. Marshall Greenwell of the National Research Council of Canada. Two students, Melvin Julian and Yola Lewis made Indian ink drawings of the live specimens. Between 2000-2002 Ms. Lori lee Lum and Professor Duncan verified previously collected data and created the checklist of the marine macroalgae of Trinidad and Tobago.
